Bluetooth PAN and External IP Networks

چکیده
This paper discusses how ad-hoc Personal Area Network (PAN) based on Bluetooth technology may connect to external networks. We assume that the Bluetooth network (piconet) is formed by the automatic SAPIFO procedure [4], that one or more piconet devices have access to external networks, and that IPv4 is used for external communication. Bluetooth have specified a PAN profile[2] for IP over Bluetooth, which uses BNEP[3] (Bluetooth Network Encapsulation Protocol) to emulate an Ethernet segments between master and slave. If the master has an additional Ethernet connection to an external network, it uses the NAP (Network Access Point) role to interconnect the Ethernet segments and form a piconet. If the master has no external Ethernet connections, on the other hand, it uses the GN (Group ad-hoc Network) role. The Ethernet segments are connected using functions from 802.1d [10]. This paper proposes definition of a new role, which accommodates more than one network access points by combining NAP and GN.

Establishing IP Network Support for a PAN-Based Virtual Device
The emergences of short-range wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11 WLAN and IEEE 802.15 WPAN, lay the fundament for Machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. People start already to envision a system where devices collaborate and serve human beings. A first step in this direction is the formation of a user’s Personal Area Network (PAN). Due to the wide variety of current and fut...
متن کاملA Testing Architecture for Designing High-Reliable MANET Protocols
In future ubiquitous communication environments, broadband wireless communication will become popular. Also, wireless LAN devices such as IEEE802.11a/b/g and wireless PAN devices such as Bluetooth and ZigBee may be integrated into mobile terminals with reasonable cost and complementarily used with existing cellular networks. This means that mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), which are composed be...
متن کاملEfficient Packetization for Bluetooth Video Transmission
The arrival of Enhanced Data Rate makes a Bluetooth home entertainment network more likely. However, if arriving IP packets do not account for the Bluetooth packet structure, poor performance will result. A dynamic IP packetization scheme is advocated and shown to overcome Bluetooth’s packet length dependencies. The research is relevant to converged IP networks which use Bluetooth as the wirele...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of IP over Bluetooth for IP Mobility Support in a Heterogeneous Environment
Mobility support at the IP layer is proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force Mobile IP Working Group to define media-independent procedures, whereby a mobile device can maintain existing transport and application-layer connections despite changing its point-of-attachment. Roaming between heterogeneous wireless networks, with different link layers, is therefore possible with this IP mobil...
متن کاملA switch model for improving throughput and power fairness in Bluetooth piconets
In this paper, a model for N mobile nodes that talk to one another simultaneously is considered under the following constraint: No node may transmit and receive at the same time. Furthermore, we focus on a Personal Area Network (PAN) application limiting the network to a single-hop ad-hoc network. The resulting half-duplex wireless network is an interesting special case of the general full-dupl...
